EAA AirVenture, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, July 9, 2025 â VoltAero is making a âhigh-poweredâ U.S. debut at next weekâs EAA AirVenture by exhibiting its new HPU 210 hybrid power unit for the first time on American soil, and opening reservations for production slots of this innovative propulsion system tailored for homebuilt, kit-built and light aircraft.
The HPU 210 is a game-changer for general aviation: combining a high-performance 150-kW Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX-derived piston engine with a 60-kW electric motor, this hybrid power unit delivers an unprecedented 40 percent boost in takeoff and climb power â all controlled through a single throttle. The system introduces VoltAeroâs patented, flight-proven hybrid-electric technology to a new category of aircraft, delivering enhanced safety, efficiency and performance.
âEAA AirVenture is the perfect venue to introduce our HPU 210 to the North American market,â said Jean Botti, VoltAero CEO and Chief Technology Officer. âWeâre excited to meet the passionate community of homebuilt and kit-built airplane enthusiasts, as well as light aircraft producers, who are seeking new and efficient propulsion options. And for the first time, weâll be taking reservations for HPU 210 production slots â right at our booth.â
Visitors to VoltAeroâs AirVenture exhibit (Booth #314) at Wittman Regional Airport will have the opportunity to get a close-up look at the HPU 210 and speak directly with VoltAeroâs technical and commercial teams. A press conference hosted by Jean Botti will be held on Tuesday, July 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the VoltAero exhibit, providing additional insight into the HPU 210âs capabilities, as well as updates on VoltAeroâs Cassio 330 electric-hybrid regional aircraft in its production configuration.
The HPU 210: validated hybrid technology for a new class of aircraft
In developing the HPU 210, VoltAero has leveraged its experience from the more than 185 flight hours and 25,000 kilometers logged with the electric-hybrid Cassio S demonstrator airplane.
The HPU 210 offers:
* Electric boost â to allow 50% reduction of a take-off distance
* Fuel flexibility (AVGAS, biofuel, unleaded auto fuel);
* Low cruise fuel consumption (as little as 38 liters/hr.);
* 1,500-hour estimated TBO (time between overhaul); and
* Seamless integration into existing airframes.
The HPU 210 will be delivered as a complete, turnkey package, including thermal engine, electric motor, gearbox and electronic control unit. Initial customer deliveries are targeted for late 2026 from VoltAeroâs production site and headquarters in Rochefort, France.
* Editorsâ note: VoltAeroâs EAA AirVenture press conference is scheduled for Tuesday, July 22 at 10:30 a.m. on the companyâs exhibit booth (#314) at Wittman Regional Airport.
