If you're looking for a spring adventure, you'd be hard pressed to find a better one than this! Escape into the wild beauty of Idaho’s high desert and embark on a rafting adventure that starts and ends at the 45 Ranch, where rugged landscapes meet the unspoiled waters of the Owyhee River. Whether you're a seasoned paddler or a first-time adventurer, this trip offers the perfect blend of excitement and tranquility. Glide through pristine canyon walls, tackle thrilling rapids, and take in breathtaking views of untouched wilderness stretching as far as the eye can see. With expert guides leading the way, you can relax, enjoy, and create memories that will last a lifetime! This is a special opportunity for JRBAF members. Fly your own airplane to the 45 Ranch in southwest Idaho for a two-day guided rafting expedition on the South Fork of the Owyhee River. The trip is scheduled for April 18-20, the peak of the rafting season, and costs $2,500 per person. Space is very limited, with only 6-8 spots available. Arrive at the 45 Ranch between April 15th and 17th to get comfortable before the adventure begins. Jon Barker of Barker River Expeditions will arrive late on Friday, April 17, to brief everyone on the trip and distribute gear while JRBAF provides dinner that evening. The next morning, Jon and his crew will transport everyone overland to the launch site, five miles upstream from the ranch. From April 18-19, you will raft through one of the most spectacular, wild, and historic sections of the river. During the trip, you'll pass through Bull Basin and visit the memorial at the site of the deadly 1981 confrontation involving Claude Dallas, Jim Pogue, and Conley Elms. Float past the old Coyote Hole homestead, located several miles above the ranch, and imagine life in this remote landscape 100 years ago. The canyon is home to abundant wildlife, including bighorn sheep, golden eagles, and river otters. Due to the nature of the trip, there are no refunds for weather-related cancellations. Pilots are responsible for making their own decisions about flying into the 45 Ranch and may arrive a day or two early if needed for weather considerations. Driving to the ranch is also an option, but a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle is required. Pilots flying in should be proficient in mountain, canyon, and remote backcountry flying. In the unlikely event that the river is unsuitable for rafting, guided hiking and canyoneering trips in the local area will be available. Accommodations & Gear:  The 45 Ranch has three bedrooms available for couples and four bunk beds for singles, assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. All rafting gear (wetsuits, splash gear, booties, sleeping bags, pads, overnight bags, day bags, etc.) is provided. Bring only the standard clothing and gear you would for a multi-day fly-in camping trip. Food is provided from dinner on April 17 through breakfast on April 20. If you plan to arrive earlier or depart later, you must bring your own food and beverages for the extra days.
